Lincoln Club of Fresno County Issues Statement on Tonight’s Debate

Fresno, California – The Chairman of the Lincoln Club of Fresno County issued the following statement regarding tonight’s debate:

“From the standpoint of domestic policy, the debate was an opportunity for the President to reiterate his strengths and plans.  In spite of inheriting a two quarter recession from Bill Clinton, the aftermath of the technology market collapse, corporate scandals, and the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, our nation’s unemployment rate stands at 5.4%, the lowest of any industrialized nation on Earth, and lower than the 5.5 unemployment rate during Bill Clinton’s re-election in 1996.  This is truly remarkable.“

“Senator Kerry’s domestic agenda, whether it be on tax policy, health insurance, minimum wage, gun control, affirmative action or any other issue, if he wins, is dead on arrival in Washington.  The Republicans will continue to control the House of Representatives after November’s election, and they won’t give the Senator any of what he wants if he becomes President.  So, all of what the Senator said tonight on domestic issues was irrelevant.”

“Regarding foreign affairs, the President repudiated Senator Kerry’s stated desire to pass a ‘global test’ in protecting America.  He also reiterated is strongly held belief that the strongest defense in the war on terror is a strong offense.  We share his belief on this issue.  Free elections in Afghanistan and the laying down of arms by insurgents in Iraq are further evidence that the President’s policies are working.”

Primary Election a Big Night for The Lincoln Club

The Lincoln Club of Fresno County went undefeated in last night's local elections, with endorsed candidates Michael Villines, Larry Westerlund and Clovis Measure A all racking up victories in part due to support and endorsements from the Lincoln Club.

Lincoln Club Chairman Michael Der Manouel, Jr. offered the following statement:

"The big prize of the night for us was Assembly District 29. There was an urgent need to elect Mike Villines to this seat and it was a priority race not only for us but for Republicans statewide who had lined up with Villines. We commend the Villines campaign and look forward to working with Mike Villines next year as our new Assemblyman. Another critical win for our PAC was in Council District 4, where our endorsed candidate, Larry Westerlund, outworked and out hustled Council President Brad Castillo in a great win for all of Fresno.

Brad Castillo even credited a last minute Lincoln Club mail piece for his defeat http://www.fresnolincolnclub.org/press.htm, and we are more than happy to the accept responsibility http://www.fresnobee.com/local/v-indexlist/story/8223107p-9072400c.html.

Finally, we commend the Clovis Unified School Board for their excellent management and look forward to seeing this growing district benefit from the proceeds generated by Measure A."
