We've heard a lot about coalitions the
past few months. Coalition of the Willing as defined by our allies in
the war on terror. Perhaps Russia
will now join now that they have seen Islamic terrorism up front and
personal. Coalition of the " Coerced
and Bribed" as Senator Kerry
describes our allies. I think there
is another coalition that has come together in recent weeks. I call it
the coalition of the Irrelevant.
There was a sign seen on the floor of
the GOP convention on Thursday night. It said: Kerry for President -
of France. That pretty much says it all.
After a
week in New York thinking things over, I have come to this conclusion:
The candidacy of Senator John F. Kerry is the most irrelevant of
my lifetime.
Why? It is
simply a matter of this: No matter how much time Senator Kerry and
Senator Edwards tour the country providing details about what they would
like to accomplish in their fictional administration, NONE of their
agenda will ever see the light of day. NONE of it.
This morning's speech by Kerry in
Cincinnati had to be the most dour, negative speech I have ever seen in
a Presidential campaign. If John Kerry is to be believed about how bad
things are in America and how bad President George W. Bush is, we should
all just get ourselves into a fetal position every morning and wait
until the Democrat Party comes to save us all.
If somehow
John Kerry's candidacy produces an electoral win in November, the
Republican majorities in the US House and US Senate are going to give
President Kerry exactly nothing. As a matter of fact, all of Kerry's
grandiose agenda will be dead on arrival. There will be no tax
increase, no government run health care system, no left
wing economic program, no overhaul of education
and no liberal judges confirmed to the federal bench.
Republicans aren't going to give him anything. So, his candidacy is
irrelevant. Anyone voting for the man on the basis of an admiration of
his views on domestic policy is simply wasting his or her time and
vote. So in my estimation, the voter today has a choice. Vote for
Kerry because you think that he will lead a more "sensitive" war on
terrorism, or vote for Bush because you want to see terrorists get their
butts kicked on THEIR turf, not ours.
In
addition, having interacted with many dozens of protesters and through
discussion with Democrat voters in subways and on golf courses and in
New York eating establishments - there is not an "inspirational"
dimension to the Kerry candidacy. While protesters and most Democrats
are going to vote for Kerry if they vote at all, there is a rising
number of Democrats, being given aid and cover by prominent Democrats
such as Zell Miller and Ed Koch and others, that are going to vote for
the President based on his handling of the war on terror. Oh, by the
way, for those that thought the words from Zell Miller and others were
"mean", I might like to remind you that several weeks ago Senator Kerry
challenged his opponents to "bring it on". Well, now the Swift Boat
Veterans and Democrats and Republicans are bringing it on and guess who
is squealing like an irrelevant stuck
pig?
Any
objective view of the Bush Presidency arrives at this conclusion - he is
funding the heck out of a lot of government. It make fiscal
conservatives cringe, but because we want a safe country we will set
this spending problem aside until we get him re-elected. At that point,
I expect a lot of activity from watchdogs of the public treasury such as
Club for Growth, the American Conservative Union and others. Because of
the spending so far, Liberals and Republican moderates have no
legitimate complaint about our Party being "hijacked" by the right
wing. The spending lobbies are getting what they want from this
Congress and Administration.
So, we will
choose between Kerry the irrelevant and Bush the compassionate defender
of America's homeland. It's looking more and more like a re-election
every day.
